For rented homes
Wireless home security for rented homes.
Get proper exterior home security without running mains camera cables through your property, drilling through internal walls for camera wiring or accessing the loft.
External camera and doorbell fixings are still required. If you rent, you are responsible for obtaining any permission required by your landlord or property owner.
Why Guardable works well for renters
- Battery-powered video doorbell
- Solar-powered outdoor cameras
- No mains camera wiring through the home
- No internal cable runs
- No loft access
- 128GB local recording included
- No compulsory cloud subscription
- Full setup on your phone
What still needs permission?
The doorbell and outdoor cameras need suitable physical mounting points. That normally means external fixings, so check your tenancy agreement and obtain landlord or property-owner permission where required.
What about flats or shared entrances?
Flats, shared entrances and communal areas need extra care because mounting permission and camera positioning can be more complicated. Contact Guardable before booking if the installation would involve a shared or communal area.
Can the equipment be removed later?
The system is wireless rather than hard-wired through the building, so the equipment can be removed later. Any making-good, removal or future reinstallation requirements will depend on the property and your tenancy arrangements.
What if the Wi-Fi is weak outside?
We’ll check the relevant Wi-Fi signal during installation. If a simple Wi-Fi extender is needed to give the cameras a reliable connection, we’ll supply and set one up at no extra cost where suitable. If your property needs something more substantial, we’ll explain the options before continuing.

Renting questions.
- Do I need my landlord’s permission?
- The cameras and doorbell need external fixings, so check your tenancy agreement and obtain any permission your landlord or property owner requires before the installation. Getting that permission is your responsibility.
- Do you drill through internal walls?
- No. There are no internal camera cable runs, so we don’t drill through internal walls for camera wiring and we don’t need loft access. External mounting fixings are still required.
- Do the cameras need mains power?
- No. Both outdoor cameras are battery powered with a solar panel each, and the video doorbell is battery powered too. Only the indoor hub needs power and a network connection.
- Can you install in a flat?
- Sometimes, but shared entrances and communal areas need extra care over mounting permission and camera positioning. Contact us before booking if the installation would involve a shared or communal area.
- Do I need a monthly subscription?
- No compulsory monthly subscription is required. 128GB local recording storage is included, with optional Tapo cloud services available separately if you want them.
- Who sets up the Tapo app?
- We do. We install the equipment, connect it to your home Wi-Fi, configure local recording and alerts, test everything and demonstrate the system on your phone before we leave.
